THIS WEEK’S NEWS
Largest transfer of wealth in history?  If implemented, President Barack Obama’s executive actions granting temporary amnesty and federal benefits to nearly 4 million illegal aliens in the United States will end up costing American taxpayers about $1.3 trillion in Social Security and Medicare benefits, and about $20 billion more in retroactive tax credits, according to Robert Rector, senior research fellow for Domestic Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation.

It is the latest radical leveling scheme that flows from the president’s totalitarian impulses.

The Obama administration set a new record again for more often than ever censoring government files or outright denying access to them last year under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, according to a new analysis of federal data by The Associated Press.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED COLUMN
Islam as a Victim Civilization
Mona Charen  2/18

President Obama's scolding of Western civilization at the National Prayer Breakfast ("Lest we get on our high horse...") may go down in history as the emblematic moment of his presidency. It was atrociously ill timed and characteristically sophomoric. My colleague Jay Nordlinger observed that Obama sounded just like the students in the 1980s who, when presented with evidence of the Soviet gulag, would respond with the rejoinder: "Well, what about racism?"

During the Cold War, we called this the "moral equivalence" fallacy, because however grave our flaws were (and some were serious), they didn't exist on the same plane as those of the Soviet Union or China or Cambodia or North Korea or the other communist nations that amassed a body count of more than 90 million souls in their seven decades of tyranny. There were other reasons the moral equivalence argument was fallacious (We had independent courts, a free press and other mechanisms for fighting injustice; they had none of those.), but that didn't prevent it from issuing from the mouths of nominally educated people until the Berlin Wall was hacked to pieces. And even after.

Yet what we have in the Obama administration isn't moral equivalence -- it seems to border on self-hatred. Jihadist barbarians are burning captives in cages, beheading Christians, gunning down French cartoonists, blowing up Buddhist statues, attacking Hindu businessmen in Mumbai, targeting Jews for execution, starving Yazidis and taking 8-year-old girls into sex slavery, yet Obama cannot express simple outrage and determination to stop them.

Apparently, that's not the way his mind works. He seems to say to himself, "I don't want my people to feel superior to the 'other.' After all, which civilization is the guiltiest on planet Earth? Ours! If the Muslims are committing some atrocities these days, it's only because we drove them to it by the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition and colonialism and supporting dictatorships and creating the State of Israel."   That is exactly the kind of reductive, ahistorical, shallow, tendentious drivel a student could easily imbibe at Columbia or Harvard unless he tried hard to avoid it. Obama sought it out, as he confirms in his (first) autobiography.

Though he has come to power in an era when everyone except the village idiot understands that radical Islam is a worldwide menace claiming (mostly Muslim) victims on every continent, and that it has gained serious footholds even in formerly moderate nations like Turkey, this president and his party are so solipsistic that they cannot even see the Islamic world in its own terms. He and they can see it only as a victim of the West.

In the universities, they teach that victim classes -- blacks, women, you know the list -- are incapable of certain sins. Blacks, for example, are held to be incapable of racism because racism is defined as holding offensive racial opinions and wielding power. Because blacks supposedly lack power, they cannot be racists.

Obama appears to be judging the entire Islamic world that way. Because it has been a victim (it hasn't, but leave that to one side), it cannot be giving rise to savage offshoots. Any crimes committed in the name of Islam are adventitious. Accordingly, Maj. Nidal Hasan's jihadi attack at Fort Hood was labeled "workplace violence." Faisal Shahzad's unsuccessful attempt to blow up Times Square was called a "lone wolf" attack.   When ISIS began its trail of torment, Obama denied that the organization was truly Islamic. Attorney General Eric Holder refused to identify Islamic extremism as a motive for worldwide terrorists. After ISIS cut off the head of American Steven Sotloff, Secretary of State John Kerry said, "The real face of Islam is not what we saw yesterday, when the world bore witness again to the unfathomable brutality of ISIL terrorist murders."

With each passing day, this administration's refusal to speak plainly about radical Islamic terrorists becomes more and more surreal. King Abdullah of Jordan says it. President Sisi of Egypt says it. European leaders say it. The United Arab Emirates has published a list of 80 terrorist groups around the world -- all of them Muslim.  This week, the White House is hosting an international conference on "countering violent extremism." The administration promises that the conference will "work to address the underlying conditions that can help foster violent extremism such as poverty, inequality and repression. This means supporting alternatives to extremist messaging and greater economic opportunities for women and disaffected youth." What "extremist messaging" would that be? The Christian Science Monitor?

This is gibberish. The administration uses language to impede thought rather than to elucidate it -- which suits the jihadis very well.

FROM OTHER COLUMNS
“Some liberal pundits have suggested that Obama’s [idea of a comprehensive climate] deal might force Republican candidates to take unpopular positions on climate change in the 2016 cycle. It might. But Republicans have a far more powerful case to make about the Democrats' disregard for the norms of American lawmaking. It’s too bad that the GOP has done so little to stop him. We live in a political environment where progressive goals are treated as moral endeavors and Constitutional constraints are treated as procedural inconveniences that can be bypassed for the good of the nation – nay, the world. No president has been as openly contemptuous of checks and balances as this one. If there are no repercussions, he might only be the first in a long line of presidents we say that about.”

ISLAM
The Mind of Muhammad.  “(Koran Chapter 33) is like a wild theme park ride that races in and out of numerous topics…..In the 73 verses that make up the chapter, Muhammad covers the following, using the God-voice he adopted for the Koran: He recaps a recent battle with the Meccans and excoriates people who were afraid to fight and die for him; he gloats about his extermination of the men and boys of one of the Jewish tribes of Yathrib, the confiscation of their property, and the enslavement of their women and children; he authorizes himself to take as many wives as he likes, permits himself to marry the wife of his adopted son, forbids himself from taking any more wives after he has taken as many as he likes, but allows himself sex slaves.  As the verses of this “revelation” continue, Muhammad imposes full body and face cover for women when outside the home, threatens people with humiliating punishment in the afterlife for annoying him, threatens to murder his critics, prohibits the practice of adoption, and dishes up images of sadistic torture in Hell awaiting people who don’t believe in him. He also praises himself as a “lamp spreading light,” and holds his behavior as a “beautiful pattern” for people to follow if they want to score well with Allah.”

House Democrats vow to protect Speaker Boehner from conservative coup?

Hillary Clinton ran a “homebrew” email server out of her basement listed under a mysterious, untraceable name.    This would have afforded Clinton additional legal opportunities to block government or private subpoenas in criminal, administrative or civil cases because her lawyers could object in court before being forced to turn over any emails. And since the Secret Service was guarding Clinton’s home, an email server there would have been well protected from theft or a physical hacking.
Democrats aren’t rushing to defend her:  Everyone in Washington is talking about Hillary Clinton's use of a personal e-mail account during her four years as secretary of State and her homebrew computer server. Everyone, that is, except for many Senate Democrats.

Jack Cashill 2/15
The Walker-Stupid, Obama-Genius Myth……Despite their self-designation as the party of the people, the Democrats will reinforce this “unknowledgeable” theme at every opportunity. Through their control of the media, they have been rigging political IQ tests for the last half-century, if not longer.

Those Republicans who were not evil geniuses -- Nixon, Gingrich, Cheney, Rove -- the media have painted as blithering idiots. Dwight Eisenhower was doddering and incoherent. Gerald Ford, perhaps the best athlete to occupy the White House, was a bumbling fool.

“I wanted [Jimmy] Carter in and I wanted [Ford] out,” comedian Chevy Chase would later admit of his mocking Ford impersonation on "Saturday Night Live", “and I figured look, we're reaching millions of people every weekend, why not do it."

Ronald Reagan, in the memorable words of Clark Clifford, was an “amiable dunce.” The senior George Bush was so out of touch he was ambushed by a grocery scanner. Dan Quayle could not spell “potato.” George W. Bush inspired the popular bumper sticker, “A village in Texas is missing its idiot.” And Sarah Palin was the yokel who could allegedly “see Russia from my house.”

In a 2010 tour of the White House, Liverpool High grad Paul McCartney would capture the pop zeitgeist perfectly both in terms of content and dopy condescension. Said McCartney, in a graceless dig at George Bush, an avid reader and Harvard MBA, “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is.”

Democratic politicians, as McCartney implied, are smart, even “scary smart,” often too bright for an undeserving American citizenry. Adlai Stevenson was an “egghead.” JFK was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Eugene McCarthy was professorial. George McGovern was cerebral. Bill Bradley was a Rhodes scholar. So was Bill Clinton.  Hillary Clinton was the smartest woman on the planet. Gary Hart, Michael Dukakis, and Al Gore were all big-brained wonks. John Kerry was so finely educated that when smearing American troops, he remembered to pronounce “Genghis”  “Jenghis.” And Barack Obama, the latest and greatest incarnation of Democratic genius, is “probably the smartest guy ever to become president” -- at least according to historian Michael Beschloss.

Most Americans never got to hear that Ted Sorensen wrote Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage, or that Bill Bradley scored an embarrassing 485 on his verbal SAT, or that John Kerry’s grades at Yale were “virtually identical” to George W. Bush’s, or that the teacher in Quayle’s classroom held a flashcard with potato misspelled, or that the scanner that ambushed Bush 41 was so new it surprised the camera crew as well.

And while the Washington Post has already spent more than 2,000 words digging into Scott Walker’s academic background, they and their media colleagues have had no more interest in exploring Obama’s academic background than they have in reopening Al Capone’s vault.

Whenever I hear someone announce that “All religions are a path to God!” I wonder how it would work if you applied such “tolerance” to, say, medicine or science. “All medicines are a path to health! You take antibiotics, I cut the head off a chicken and dance under the full moon, really what’s the difference as long as we both believe it will make us well?” Or “All science is a path to progress! You invent an iPhone, I invent a weaponized disease, it’s all science, man, it’s all great!” When you put it this way, it becomes clear that the idea that all religions are equally worthwhile is essentially an atheist creed. To say All religions are a path to God is really saying, No religion is a path to God.  There is no God, so what difference does your religion make? When something is true, when it is factual, when it is real, it excludes other options. The world can’t be both flat and round. When you accept the roundness of it, you can no longer entertain its flatness. It’s one or the other.

“Despite the fact that Republicans have majorities in both the House and the Senate that were elected on a pledge to fight against President Obama’s executive amnesty, and despite forcing through a big spending bill at the end of 2014 with the promise they would fight later on Homeland Security appropriations, they are now punting the issue entirely. … The absurdity of this situation is that fighting the president’s executive amnesty through Department of Homeland Security appropriations was the strategy created by Republican leaders. Now that the time to fight has arrived, the generals are running from the battlefield and blaming the infantry they told to lead the charge. If the Republican majority in both houses of Congress is not willing to take a stand and fight against the government takeover of America’s healthcare system or the president’s arrogant usurpation of the constitutional powers of Congress, then what will they fight for? Who will stand with freedom-minded Americans who sent this majority to Washington to fight for them? I hope my former colleagues will ask themselves: ‘If not us, who? If not now, when?’”

Louisiana Gov. In an address here Saturday to the Club for Growth, an advocacy group that long has been an antagonist to establishment Republican leaders, Jindal said he had grown impatient with the slow pace of progress of the GOP's new Senate majority and expanded House majority. "It's not just a fight with Democrats, but with some Republicans, as well," said Jindal, a likely 2016 presidential candidate. "When we say, 'We want to repeal Obamacare,' we mean every single word...What was the point of getting these majorities if we weren't even going to try to fight for these principles?"

A popular theme on Planet Clinton is that poor Hillary is always in mortal danger of being undone by her charming cad of a hubby. “She can’t control him” is how insiders express their fear that Bubba will have a bimbo eruption and crash the coronation. On a long list of possibilities, that scenario must be included. But my reading of the Clinton Chronicles points to a much bigger threat to the restoration of the family monarchy. That would be the stumbling performance of the lady herself. On top of the tactical blunders, there was an overarching reason why sure victory eluded Hillary…..

In one of the most important decisions in its history, the Federal Communications Commission, a pernicious government agency set up more than 70 years ago to regulate radio interference, may undermine key aspects of the Internet. Many outlets described the new policies as a victory for consumers over the Internet Service Providers, such as AT&T, Comcast and Verizon.
