THIS WEEK’S NEWS
“Anemic jobs data hit Obama launch; Official
campaign starts under shadow...”
“…it is just getting sad now. In April the number of people
not in the labor force rose by a whopping 522,000. This is the highest on
record. The flip side, and the reason why the unemployment dropped to 8.1% is
that the labor force participation rate just dipped to a new 30 year low of
64.3%.”
President Obama will hold his third Seattle-area
$35,800-a-couple fundraiser of the 2012 campaign when he visits the Emerald City on May 10. The "High Dollar
Brunch" will be held in the [$2 million 5 bed, 4.75 bath 5,410 sq ft East
Seattle home on 1/3 acre] of Ann and Bruce Blume.
President Obama has already held more re-election
fundraising events than every elected president since Richard Nixon
combined.
In the wake of a warm conservative reception for a web video
trashing the president for “spiking the football” on the anniversary of Osama
Bin Laden’s death, the conservative group Veterans for a Strong America plans
to gather Navy SEALs and Special Forces operators to criticize the White House
during the 2012 campaign.
“The Obama campaign unveiled The Life of Julia, a slide show
that purports to illustrate how the Obama administration helps a woman named
Julia from cradle to grave, at each stage of her life. Here is the first slide:
Julia is a classic Democratic voter; she wouldn’t know what to do with herself
without the government. Conservatives had a field day today, teeing off on
“Julia.” You can read a lot of the snark, much of it funny and telling, on
Twitter.”
May Day protests and traffic jams quickly turned to vandalism and chaos in
downtown Seattle
Tuesday, The violent demonstrators
calling for the end of capitalism and school were mostly white teens and adults
in their early 20s. Mostly young men used wooden sticks to shatter the former
courthouse windows while several young women threw projectiles into federal
building windows. The anarchists also turned on photographers and a KING
cameraman who was attacked had blood dripping the left side of his face as he
continued to film.
Sharkansky: “For some
reason I'm reminded of Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post columnist Eugene
Robinson, whose column regularly appears in the Seattle Times. Last year Robinson
declared: "I think we can say incontrovertibly that violent political
rhetoric and the threat of political violence in this country comes almost
exclusively from the right."

Protests 'Restrained'”

Security is praising the left-wing “May Day” protests.
President Obama issued a proclamation in celebration of
Jewish Heritage Month that lauded an infamous Nazi supporter.
Medical examiners in Los
Angeles are investigating the possible poisoning death
of one of their own officials who may have worked on the case of Andrew
Breitbart, the conservative firebrand who died March 1, the same day Sheriff
Joe Arpaio announced probable cause for forgery in President Obama’s birth
certificate. Michael Cormier, a respected forensic technician for the Los
Angeles County Coroner died under suspicious circumstances at his North Hollywood home April 20, the same day Breitbart’s
cause of death was finally made public.
As many as 200 activists, some chanting "go Joe, go
Joe," rallied in Arizona
to support Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is facing a federal
racial-profiling probe for his police sweeps against illegal immigrants.
The assaults on a pair of Virginian-Pilot reporters in Norfolk, Va.,
two weeks ago at the hands of 30 black youths are the latest in a series of
attacks driven by a warped sense of racial vigilantism hiding behind calls of
“Justice for Trayvon.” At least 15 whites have been beaten not just with fists,
but with potentially deadly weapons including hammers and lengths of chain.
Many of the victims have been hospitalized, some may never fully recover, and
one lingers on the verge of death.
Reinforcing what most employers in Washington State
already know, a new report by the Washington Roundtable concludes our state’s
business climate is in serious need of improvement. “Washington comes in dead last for having the
nation’s most expensive workers’ compensation benefits paid to injured workers.”
For the first time, California
will ask its contractors if they are gay.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED COLUMN
Phyllis Schlafly 4/17
Hilary Rosen's
attack on Ann Romney by saying that, although she raised five children, she
"never worked a day in her life" perfectly fits the definition of a
gaffe. A gaffe is a statement that reveals what the spokesperson really thinks
but turns out to be embarrassing when it is publicly discussed. In this case,
the embarrassment fell on the Obama administration, so his campaign operatives
immediately tried to create political distance between Obama and Rosen. They
were not successful. The media refer to her as a "Democratic
strategist" or "political analyst."
Rosen visited the
Obama White House 35 times. That frequency may be exceeded only by visits from
Service Employees International Union boss Andy Stern. Rosen is a managing
director of a political consulting firm called SKDKnickerbocker, one of its
founders is Anita Dunn, who was Obama's communications czar leading Obama's war
on Fox News. Dunn is memorable for having said that Mao Tse-tung is one of her
two favorite "political philosophers" who "I turn to most"
for answers to important questions.
Although Rosen
finally issued a lame apology for the insult, she had said what she meant and
meant what she said. Even after her remark about Ann Romney boomeranged, Rosen
continued with the same line for hours on Twitter, in an online column, and in
television appearances.
Rosen's gaffe was no
mistake; it is what the feminists really think about any mother who would say,
as Ann Romney said, "My career choice was to be a mother." The big
mama of feminism who is revered in college women's studies courses, Simone de
Beauvoir, famously said, "No woman should be authorized to stay at home
and raise her children. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if
there is such a choice, too many women will make that one."
That's exactly what
feminists think. The strident voices that demand "choice" do not
believe women should have the choice to be a homemaker rather than work a paid
job in the labor force. For an updated statement of this feminist dogma, refer
to Linda Hirshman. She wrote that "The tasks of housekeeping and child
rearing are not worthy of the full time and talents of intelligent and educated
human beings."
Obama said that
Republicans are waging a "war on women," but that's a completely
contrived issue. The real war on women is by feminists who demean women who
choose the career path of homemaker and mislead young women into believing that
a job in the workforce will be more significant and rewarding than marriage and
motherhood (in that order).
The most scholarly
book written about the feminist movement by a nonfeminist is "Domestic
Tranquility" by Carolyn Graglia. She read all those tiresome books and
articles by the feminist leaders, Betty Friedan, Germaine Greer, Kate Millett,
Gloria Steinem, and Simone de Beauvoir, and concluded that the principal goal
of feminism from the get-go has been "the status degradation of the
housewife's role." Graglia documented the fact that all branches of
feminism are united in the conviction that a woman can find identity and
fulfillment only by a career in the workforce. Betty Friedan said the
stay-at-home mom is a "parasite" living in a "comfortable
concentration camp." Gloria Steinem said, "you become a
semi-nonperson when you get married."
This devaluing of
the role of mother and full-time homemaker is imbedded in the psyche of the
feminists who are major players in the Obama administration. Don't forget that
when the feminists started their movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s,
they called themselves the women's liberation movement, i.e., their goal was to
be liberated from home, husband and children.
Feminists believe
that society's expectation that mothers should care for their own children
illustrates the oppression of women by the patriarchy. That's why legislating
taxpayer-funded daycare as an entitlement for all is a major and longtime
feminist goal.
Longtime?
Absolutely. The feminists are still crying on television about President
Richard Nixon's 1971 veto of the Mondale-Brademas Daycare bill.
Government-financed daycare was one of the hot-button demands endorsed at the
International Women's Year conference in November 1977, along with the Equal
Rights Amendment, taxpayer-funded abortions, and the entire gay agenda.
The feminists showed
their clout in the Obama administration when they got him to rule that
Obamacare must force all employers to pay for sterilization, abortion drugs,
and contraception even when it's contrary to their religious beliefs. The
feminists were able to override the objections of all Obama's experienced political
advisers who warned that this would alienate large blocs of voters who care
about religious liberty.

FROM OTHER COLUMNS
"Election Day 2012 will not be a presidential election.
It will be a plebiscite….on the definition of America. ... The usual description
of presidential elections -- 'the most important in our lifetime' -- is true
this time. In fact, it may be the most important election since the Civil War,
and possibly since America's
founding. ... [Barack Obama] described the left's aim perfectly: to
fundamentally transform America.
It seeks to replace Liberty,
In God We Trust, and E Pluribus Unum. That is what 'fundamentally transform'
means. In fact, those words are proof that American values and leftist values
are fundamentally opposed to one another. ... For these reasons, this election
is not just a choice between a Democrat and a Republican. It is between
Americanism and leftism. ... The left's desire to transform America is the
biggest issue. Barack Obama is to be opposed because he is a man of the
left."

One of America’s
largest foundations has set aside its history of building hospitals, libraries,
and schools in order to pour millions into liberal political causes. The Kresge
Foundation, established with a $1.6 million endowment from K-Mart founder
Sebastian Spering Kresge in 1924, has morphed into a $3 billion behemoth.
Ideological giving has grown along with the foundation’s fortunes under the
stewardship of former Minneapolis mayoral candidate Rip Rapson.Rapson…..between
2007 and 2011 Kresge gave $52 million to 68 organizations based in Washington,

“The Tyranny of Cliches: How Liberals Cheat in the War of
Ideas” by Jonah Goldberg. The central message is that Progressives have a consistent ideology,
which they then proceed to pretend is not an ideology at all, but instead mere
‘Pragmatism.’ The reason why this is important is because ideologies can
be and are rigorously questioned and challenged as a matter of course; but if
one can instead get people to treat an ideological position as merely being
something that ‘everybody knows,’ then it theoretically becomes easier to get
people to unquestionably endorse said position. "In the PC prison yard of
accepted political thought, Jonah Goldberg has just shivved progressivism.
Bold, brilliant, and bursting with humor, every page of The Tyranny of Clichés

ELECTION
Meet Obama’s ideal woman. Her name is Julia. As told by Obama’s latest ad campaign,
Julia’s parents didn’t teach her the alphabet or how to make friends; Head
Start did. Her parents didn’t need to save for college, because she got a
government grant and student loans (which she’ll spend a good portion of her
adult life paying back). Her first job as a graphic designer didn’t have
benefits, but that’s okay, because government provided free health care (since
she couldn’t stay on her parents’ plan). Julia had free birth control—thanks to
government. When she decided to have a baby, she had free prenatal care—thanks
to government. Her son got the same great education she had—thanks to
government. Julia started a small business—thanks to government. She retired
with Medicare and Social Security—thanks to… well, you get the picture. Julia
is successful, we are told. Her success is not because of her loving family, a
supportive church, or a strong local ties—but because big government maintains
a lavish welfare state.
“First we find out that Obama's girlfriend in Dreams
of My Father is a composite of several women he dated, now the
President has invented a woman named "Julia" to represent how his
policies would affect the average American woman during her lifetime. Ladies,
this is the left's "war on women" that the right has been backlashing
us about!”
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich said in an interview with
USA
TODAY that he will embrace Mitt Romney's candidacy and is ready to campaign for
his former rival.
Mitt Romney, asked if he would have given the order to go
after Osama bin Laden, as President Obama's new video and his campaign aides
have suggested he wouldn't have done: "Of course, even Jimmy Carter would
have given that order."
President Obama jokes about eating dogs?
“President Obama is
breaking new ground in his campaign for reelection. He is going where incumbent
presidents have never gone before. He is doing things for which President
George W. Bush would have been pilloried. And Obama is doing all this in plain
view.” Yet the media have rarely found the new ploys and gambits of Obama’s
campaign worth mentioning, much less spotlighting. For instance, in his address
at the National Prayer Breakfast in February, Obama treated his agenda and
Jesus Christ’s as one and the same. Since the media didn’t raise any flags, one
might have concluded a comment such as Obama’s was normal for that event. It
wasn’t.

ARTICLES
Best guide you’ll ever read about leftist disinformation
campaigns: "Trayvon," of
course, is Trayvon Martin, the black 17-year-old who was killed two months ago
in Florida.
"Zimmerman" is George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who
shot him. Referring to Martin by his first name and Zimmerman by his last
is just one small tactic in the national media campaign to make Martin's death
an enduring symbol of white racism. The Trayvon campaign is accurately
described as "disinformation" because deception is a fundamental part
of its planning, strategy, and implementation. Leftist disinformation campaigns
are common but not widely understood. This article is intended to make them
easier to recognize, and to provide a framework for additional research and
investigation. Whether or not George Zimmerman was justified in pulling the
trigger is outside the scope of this analysis.

United Kingdom,
including analysis on how the welfare state destroys lives and turns people
into despicable moochers. But if you really want to understand the horrifying
absurdity of the welfare state, check out these passages from a report in the
Daily Mail.”

WISE WORDS
"We contend
that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing
in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."
-Winston Churchill
"A major source
of objection to a free economy is precisely that it ... gives people what they
want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying
most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom
itself."
