op ed review 11/4

THIS WEEK’S NEWS
Wes Pruden:  Four days out, it looks like Mitt Romney. October has come and gone with no surprise, with just a slow, plodding accumulation of signs and portents suggesting that “the One” who has come will soon be gone. The polls are tight, and the numbers are steady, but it begins to feel like 1980 again, when a tight race between President Carter and Ronald Reagan broke open over the last weekend.
The tidal wave of anti-debt, anti-big-government voters that swamped Democrats in the 2010 congressional elections is readying itself again, poised to sweep Mitt Romney into the Oval Office, some political observers say. “It’s very, very likely,” veteran Republican campaign pollster John McLaughlin said, predicting a Romney tsunami Tuesday. “Romney has surged in all the target states….The undecided vote is not really undecided….”
Karl Rove:  It comes down to numbers. And in the final days of this presidential race, from polling data to early voting, they favor Mitt Romney. He maintains a small but persistent polling edge. As of yesterday afternoon, there had been 31 national surveys in the previous seven days. Mr. Romney led in 19, President Obama in seven, and five were tied.
“As a veteran of numerous national, state and local campaigns, I can tell you that each race and each campaign has its own life cycle. The 2012 presidential contest is no exception. As polls tighten, and especially since Mitt Romney’s decisive performance in the first debate, Team Obama and the president himself are showing signs of what I term a campaign’s “death rattle.”
“This race is over, but the conspiracy theories are about to begin. And, boy howdy, are things going to get ugly. To wit, Mitt Romney will defeat Barack Obama for the presidency on November 6, after which there will be hysterical blowback. The election result is quantifiable, with Romney consistently leading in national tracking polls, finding a level at or above 50 percent in many, and closing the necessary gaps in swing states and among demographic groups. Greater evidence can be found, however, in Obama’s sour demeanor and the conduct of his campaign. What a mess.”

Imagine you go to the polls and choose Mitt Romney on an electronic machine, but your vote comes up Barack Obama. So you re-enter your choice, but the president's name still stubbornly appears. Then a third try. Ditto. Innocent malfunction...or something else? Whatever the case, this has already happened to voters in states such as Nevada, Ohio, Kansas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Colorado -- four of which are swing states…….This election is within the margin of fraud, and I've already made my predictions and written that vote manipulators can, with little question, steal it for Obama. And here is how we could know on Nov. 7: watch the exit polls. Exit polling is a precise enough science so that states can be called for one candidate or another based on it. Thus, if this data shows a Romney win in a state but it nonetheless goes for Obama, we can bet that the living-constitution types have given us a living vote count along with a dying republic

“Scandal Deepens With New Benghazi Documents: At a Minimum, Hillary Clinton Must Go”
Who'd have thought that hyenas could turn into lambs. Question: How is Benghazi different from Watergate and Iran-Contra? The obvious answer: the media. Liberal journalists turned Watergate and Iran-Contra into gigantic national scandals by their consistent, relentless pursuit of both stories; to the contrary, they are consistently, relentlessly ignoring Benghazi.

Legions of lawyers are ready to enter the fray in case Election Day turns on a legal challenge. One nightmare scenario would be for the results in a battleground state like Florida or Ohio to be too close to call, with thousands of absentee or provisional ballots yet to be counted.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED COLUMN

Brutal Las Vegas Review-Journal Editorial Labels Obama ‘Unworthy’ of His Office
“……the most incendiary indictment of a politician I've ever read.”

Based on documents released by the committee, on the day of the (Libya) attack the Pentagon dispatched a drone with a video camera so everyone in Washington could see what was happening in real time. The drone documented no crowds protesting any video. But around 4 p.m. Washington received an email from the Benghazi mission saying it was under a military-style attack. The White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and the CIA were able to watch the live video feed. An email sent later that day reported “Ansar al-Sharia claims responsibility for Benghazi attack.”
Not only did the White House do nothing, there are now reports that a counterterrorism team ready to launch a rescue mission was ordered to stand down.
The official explanation for the inadequate security? This administration didn’t want to “offend the sensibilities” of the new radical Islamic regime which American and British arms had so recently helped install in Libya.
The official explanation for why Obama administration officials watched the attack unfold for seven hours, refusing repeated requests to send the air support and relief forces that sat less than two hours away in Italy? Silence……..

This administration is an embarrassment on foreign policy and incompetent at best on the economy – though a more careful analysis shows what can only be a perverse and willful attempt to destroy our prosperity. Back in January 2008, Barack Obama told the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle that under his cap-and-trade plan, “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.” He added, “Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” It was also in 2008 that Mr. Obama’s future Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, famously said it would be necessary to “figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” – $9 a gallon.
Yet the president now claims he’s in favor of oil development and pipelines, taking credit for increased oil production on private lands where he’s powerless to block it, after he halted the Keystone XL Pipeline and oversaw a 50 percent reduction in oil leases on public lands.
These behaviors go far beyond “spin.” They amount to a pack of lies. To return to office a narcissistic amateur who seeks to ride this nation’s economy and international esteem to oblivion, like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb to its target at the end of the movie “Dr. Strangelove,” would be disastrous.

Dear Undecided Voter:
Given that you’re an undecided voter, you probably don’t believe those who keep saying that this is “the most important election of our lifetime.” I’m sure that sounds like political hyperbole to you. It isn’t. This is indeed the most important election of our lifetime, and I say that with confidence without even knowing how old you are. In a nutshell: Re-electing President Obama will lock us into a course that will lead us to fiscal collapse, place unimaginable burdens on our children and destroy the ability of government to protect our interests around the world and the most vulnerable here at home. Before you dismiss that as mere partisanship, please take a few moments to read my explanation………..Under Obama’s misguided leadership, we are certainly experiencing a great deal of misery today. But if he is re-elected, that misery will pale in comparison to what awaits us tomorrow.

FROM OTHER COLUMNS
“As a student of history, I would assert that in no election since 1860 has our nation been more viscerally divided along clearer battle lines than in the current contest between Romney/Ryan and Obama/Biden. The contentious contrast in this campaign cycle is not so much about political policies as it is about the overarching themes of tyranny versus Liberty -- Rule of Law versus rule of men. In just a few days, we will learn whether our nation has elected to move toward the restoration of Liberty, or if Barack Hussein Obama's propaganda machine has succeeded in fast-tracking our nation down the road to Democratic Socialism.”

“Weighing over 250 pounds, not rickets, is a national plague. Riots target sneaker stores, not food bins. Sandra Fluke naturally become the epitome of frustrated liberal-mandated equality. We are to believe that an upscale white law student, who by choice enrolls at a Catholic university, is deprived because her university will not pay for her condoms or abortion pills. Her cell phone no doubt costs more than a year’s supply of prophylactics. The result is psychodrama, not class struggle, as liberals strain to find ways in which America is Les Misérables rather than the Kardashians, plagued by this obsession to step in and make everyone (except themselves) the same.”

LEFTIST WATCH
President Obama sent Hugo Chavez a letter of congratulation when he won another term as President of Venezuela recently.  Here’s how he now plans to “fully crush the bourgeois state”   “Socialist plan provides for creation of 450 communes per year.  "Consolidation of and support to the people's power during 2013-2019, which will lead to the creation of 3,000 socialist communes, 450 communes per year, based on the demographic characteristics of the country's territorial development axis. Said communes will gather 39,000 communal councils, comprising 4,680,000 households, that is, 21,060,000 citizens. In other words, nearly 68% of the Venezuelan population in 2019 (30,550,479) will live under communes subsystems."

ISLAM
After violent Muslim reactions to the amateurish "Innocence of Muslims" video, which simply depicted a few of the less salutary aspects of Muhammad's biography, international and domestic Islamic agendas have openly converged with vehement calls for universal application of Islamic blasphemy law. This demand to abrogate Western freedom of expression was reiterated in a parade of speeches by Muslim leaders at the UN General Assembly. The US Muslim community echoed such admonitions, for example during a large demonstration in Dearborn, Michigan, and in a press release by the Islamic Circle of North America.

GLOBALONEY
Wind farms no longer the vogue in UK:  “The significance of yesterday’s shock announcement by our Energy Minister John Hayes that the Government plans to put a firm limit on the building of any more onshore windfarms is hard to exaggerate. On the face of it, this promises to be the beginning of an end to one of the greatest and most dangerous political delusions of our time. For years now, the plan to cover hundreds of square miles of the British countryside with ever more wind turbines has been the centerpiece of Britain’s energy policy--and one supported by all three major political parties.”

ACTIVISM
Earlier this year, the legislature passed and the Governor signed SB 6239 to redefine marriage for all Washingtonians, stripping the roles of men and women from marriage and making it a genderless institution.
Preserve Marriage Washington, a coalition of pastors, community and faith groups, and citizens, has qualified a referendum to allow voters to decide if they want this legislation to take effect. Washingtonians have the opportunity to "Reject" R-74 in order to preserve marriage as the union between one man and one woman.

ELECTION
“WE'RE COMING DOWN to the wire now for the 2012 elections, but if you think that this choice is between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, you haven’t been paying attention……The choice is between restoring America or watching our nation become, in perpetuity, a larger version of the beleaguered European Union.”

“Every four years, presidential candidates talk about the enormous stakes of the coming election. But this year, it is no mere campaign platitude. In fact, rarely in American history has an election mattered more. The future of ObamaCare, the size and intrusiveness of government, tax rates, America's standing in the world, and the long-term makeup of the Supreme Court all rest on who occupies the White House for the next four years. Here are the stakes, should Obama win a second term…….”

The circus called and said they're missing their clown. We found him! Vice President Joe Biden had quite a day today out on the campaign trail stumping for his boss President Obama.

ARTICLES
VDH: “Liberals believe that there are lots of crass and greedy one-percenters who live to profit, and as refined Greeks expect grubby Romans to work while they think and plan. Like cockroaches, you cannot get rid of the one-percenters, given their elemental grasping. They will always get up at a 5 a.m. to chase the next superfluous buck in carbon-polluting oil exploration, Wall Street speculation, smoky trucking, or unsustainable farming. They are sheep with inexhaustible fleece. So liberals do not really believe that anyone will stop working due to Obamacare or a 40% income tax rate. Jerry Brown might say of overtaxed Californians, should his 13% income tax rate pass, “Where else could they go?” For those who cling to their profits, you could tax them at 90% and they would still scheme to find a way to have more than others — so what does it matter if they pay more?”

WISE WORDS
"Government has become so vast and impersonal that its interests diverge more and more from the interests of ordinary citizens. For a generation and more, the government has sought to meet our needs by multiplying its bureaucracy. Washington has taken too much in taxes from Main Street, and Main Street has received too little in return. It is not necessary to centralize power in order to solve our problems."
                           -George McGovern

"One of the things that bothers me most is the growing belief in the country that security is more important than freedom. It ain't."
