THIS WEEK’S NEWS
Fox narrows the Nov 10th GOP debate down to 8.

Ben Carson claims his campaign has pulled in $3.5 million in fundraising dollars this week thanks to “biased media” coverage.

Chutzpah:   Illegal immigrants release ‘Bill of Rights’….Demand citizenship, birth certificates, medical care.

Combat photographer accused of making passes at women faces harsher punishment than deserter Bergdahl.
Hillary Clinton and top aides signed non disclosure agreements which warned against ‘negligent handling’ of classified information.
How machine politics works:   Hillary Clinton is calling for a federal investigation of ExxonMobil’s climate change activities just months after the company neglected to renew its sponsorship of the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting. ExxonMobil has given between $ 1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation.  But this year, the oil giant was one of six major corporations that stopped sponsoring the event.  They must be punished.

At the upcoming United Nations Climate Summit in Paris, participating nations have prepared a treaty that would create an “International Tribunal of Climate Justice” giving Third World countries the power to haul the U.S. into a global court with enforcement powers.

$20 trillion man: National debt nearly doubles during Obama presidency

Actor and former Republican senator Fred Thompson has died aged 73, his family have said. Thompson, who starred in Law & Order and Die Hard II as well as being a senator in Tennessee, died on Sunday in Nashville after a battle with lymphoma.

The latest IBD/TIPP poll found that 52% of the public opposes ObamaCare, which is up seven points from when this question was last asked in August. That puts opposition to ObamaCare close to the all-time high since IBD started asking the question.

Evangelical, wealthy businessman, anti-government Tea Party hero Matt Bevin elected as Kentucky governor.  Liberals apoplectic.

God bless Texas:  In rural Borden County TX, 12 people signed up for Obamacare this year. “Livid over the government telling them they must buy something and loath to take anything that looks like a “handout,” the uninsured here are likely to stay that way.”

The world’s richest man, Bill Gates, has said that the private sector is too selfish and inefficient to produce effective energy alternatives to fossil fuels.

Despite ever-growing educational spending and endless experimentation to discover magic bullets, the recent news from the education front is depressing. For example, scores on the National Assessment for Educational Progress (the NAEP) showed a lack of progress in reading and math proficiency -- only a third of the nation’s eighth-graders were “proficient” (or above) in math while the figure was only slightly higher for fourth-graders.

President Obama is expected to announce an executive order to prevent federal employers from asking about a potential employee´s criminal history.

90 days out from the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses, the race is really down to its Final Four.  In alphabetical order, either Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, or Donald Trump is going to end up being the Republican nominee for this reason. They are the only four candidates who have established the base of support, resources, and voter enthusiasm necessary to not only sustain their candidacies, but actually grow them.

Parents in Illinois are outraged that a public school there is painting a positive picture of Islam and teaching impressionable young students that Islam bears no responsibility for the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

On July 3, 2008 Barack Obama said that adding $4 trillion in debt was irresponsible and “unpatriotic.  Then he went out and added a record $4 trillion to the national debt in only 2 and a half years. Obama has now doubled the US national debt in 7 years.

THIS WEEKS COLUMN
Can the Democrats Mainstream Socialism?
John Hideraker  10/18
Socialism is the worst idea, and the greatest tragedy, in human history. It is responsible for more than 100 million deaths and almost unimaginable suffering and poverty. And yet…somehow, it keeps making a comeback. Even here in the United States, where many Democrats think it is time to come out of the closet and, like Bernie Sanders, declare themselves to be socialists.

The mainstreaming of socialism goes back at least to 2009, when Newsweek, when it was still being printed, featured this cover:  “We Are All Socialists Now” In 2011, liberals cheered a Pew survey that showed millennials have a positive view of socialism, by a 49%-43% margin. That’s what comes of not knowing anything about history, I guess.

The effort to mainstream socialism has, of course, accelerated as Sanders has emerged as the Democrats’ popular favorite, if not, in all likelihood, the eventual nominee. Increasingly, liberals are floating trial balloons. Salon headlines: “Sorry, Hillary, but most Americans yearn for Bernie’s democratic socialism.” Bill Maher tells Sanders, we have to “teach Americans that they’re already socialist.” MSNBC combines its two favorite concepts by telling viewers that the U.S. would already be socialist, if it weren’t for race. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, asked how a Democrat is different from a socialist, was stumped: she couldn’t think of a single difference. And normalization of relations with Cuba, and all that has followed–Cuba is cool!–can be seen as part of the same campaign.

We could go on, but the conclusion is obvious: liberals are, at a minimum, trying to accustom voters to socialism as a plausible political program. Is it working? Conservatives have been encouraged by a recent Gallup poll that found 50% of respondents would not vote for a socialist if he was nominated by their party. (Socialists fared worse than homosexuals, evangelicals, Muslims and atheists.) But maybe we should be worried about the fact that 47% say they are ready to vote for a socialist if he is nominated.

One lesson we have learned over the years is that the Left never gives up. No defeat is permanent. Alger Hiss was convicted of perjury. He was innocent! The Rosenbergs were executed. They were framed! Mary Mapes and Dan Rather were fired. Their Texas Air National Guard story was a model of investigative journalism! Socialism has killed more than 100 million people, and impoverished countless more. Let’s give it another try!

I don’t think conservatives can assume (as we could for decades) that socialism is beyond the pale in the U.S., and that a candidate to whom the “socialist” label can be pinned is doomed. Conservative candidates are going to have to argue the case, assuming that most Americans know so little about history that they have an open mind on the merits of socialism. Voters need to be reminded that socialism in both forms–national socialism and Marxian socialism–has been a lethal disaster wherever it has been implemented. Venezuela is a good contemporary exemplar: do Americans want to emulate Venezuela, one of the most resource-rich countries in the world, where after 16 years of socialism you can’t buy toilet paper at any price, and shoppers knife one another to get their hands on groceries?

That is the reality that Bernie Sanders and many other Democrats want to bring to the United States, and GOP candidates should not let voters forget it.

ARTICLES
“Let me be very, very clear about one thing: The DC Media cannot allow Dr. Ben Carson to become President of the United States. And if the DC Media has to put on white robes, burn crosses, grab firehoses, and sic German Shepherds on Carson, they will. In fact, they already have. Not literally, but the tactics and the goals are exactly the same: By any means necessary, destroy the free-thinking black man who threatens our power.”
