A man was fatally shot outside a Philadelphia concert being held to promote peace and prevent violence in the city.

Meanwhile, “vacationing President Obama will host his 401st fundraiser Monday night on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., continuing his record-setting pace that has had him collecting checks from donors at events on average every five days since becoming president.”
Eager to defend President Obama from criticism of his vacation in Martha´s Vineyard amid multiple international crises, both Sunday´s ABC Good Morning America and Monday´s NBC Today used false spin to downplay the bad optics.
Someone has dug up an old video of Barack Obama promising not to take vacations if he were elected president.

Washington Post:  “Republican takeover of Senate appears more and more assured”
By a ten-point spread, Obama incentivizes voters to go Republican more than Democratic: President Barack Obama is dragging down his party and hurting the prospects of fellow Democrats as they head into midterm elections that will determine who controls Congress, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

Until 2007 the world showed a trend away from conflict and war. Since then the world has been getting incrementally less peaceful every year.  Of the 162 countries covered by the Institute for Economics and Peace’s latest study, just 11 were not involved in conflict of one kind or another.

“The rank spectacle of ex-Secretary of State Clinton suddenly turning on her commander in chief and former boss to shiv him in the back over the burning ruins she helped make of the Middle East is staggering to behold. The brassiness, dishonesty and shamelessness as she slides into yet another presidential campaign season is enough to choke that old Arkansas draft mule of a husband she hitched her career to. The scheming calculation of it all would make Lady Macbeth take to the bed for blushing.”

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is calling on every American citizen to call their U.S. senators and demand to know where they stand on President Barack Obama’s planned executive amnesty. Sessions berated House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, calling on Reid to allow a vote on the House-passed measure that would block President Obama’s attempts to continue or expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive amnesty to millions more illegal aliens.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED COLUMN
Derek Hunter:  “Open Letter to the Political Right”  8/3

I write today in the hope you all can get over whatever anger, distrust or bruised egos this primary season and political year has caused you. We on the right need to unite and send a message to progressives by unambiguously retaking the U.S. Senate in November.  We all have some problem with what’s happened so far. Someone we liked lost a primary. Someone we didn’t won. Some piece of legislation we hate passed; some other piece we liked did not. No one is completely happy, but we all know things can get much worse – and will if we don’t put aside what divides and do what we must for the cause of liberty.

The political right has a habit of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. This is exemplified by libertarians, and it’s the fast track to political irrelevancy.  The question is this: Do we want to sit out and lose so we can send a message of some sort? Or do we want to at least stop the hemorrhaging of liberty and the expansion of government?  Barack Obama still will be in the White House no matter what happens in November, and he’s demonstrated a lack of concern for individual liberty or personal responsibility that threatens our founding principles. A Republican- controlled House and Senate can’t reverse much that he has done, but it can slow him down.

I get that voting for the lesser of two evils sucks. But the alternative – more evil – is worse. And remember, your “less evil” is someone else’s ideal candidate, and vice- versa. No one would ever get elected if one side or the other didn’t hold their nose from time to time in the voting booth for the good of the cause. This year, if you’re on the right, it’s your turn.

If you don’t, if you sit it out to make some perverse point, good for you. I’m not sure what you think you’ll prove other than you won’t support anyone, no matter the consequences, unless they’re “your candidate.” But you need to realize your vote could be crucial to keeping Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader. Oh, and that your obstinance gave the most radical leftist progressives ever to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., a freer hand to replace however many Supreme Court justices retire or die in the next two years with like- minded progressive activists uninterested in the Constitution.

If and when that happens and our laws are changed by judicial fiat, remember back to the self-satisfaction you felt on Nov. 5, 2014, when you woke up and realized you “showed” those conservatives or the establishment what they can do with their candidate who didn’t meet your purity test. Either that or you recognize this is the last real shot the right will have to take the Senate for at least two election cycles and make the best choice the ballot offers you, whether they’re your candidate or not.

It’s time to decide: Are you going to be ruled by your scars, or are you going to learn from them?

FROM OTHER COLUMNS
“I wish it were otherwise, but people tend to be libertarian only after it’s demonstrated to them that the government can’t deliver the results they want. … To the extent that libertarian ideas are gaining new currency outside the GOP, it’s because of government’s failures. Particularly for young people – especially more affluent young people – the yawning chasm between the efficiency of the private sector and the haplessness of the public sector is poisonous to faith in government. The VA scandal, the clownish rollout of the Obamacare website and the near wholesale inability of Barack Obama to deliver on his economic promises have done more to breathe new life into libertarianism than a thousand lectures about Friedrich Hayek’s ‘Road to Serfdom’ ever could.”
              -Jonah Goldberg

“Are there bad cops? Yes. Does the police state go overboard sometimes? Yes. Do the demagogues decrying systemic racism and braying about ‘assassinations’ know what happened when teenager Mike Brown was tragically shot and killed last week? No. Here’s a reality check. While narcissistic liberal journalists and college kids are all posting ‘Hands Up’ selfies in hipster solidarity with Ferguson protesters, it’s law enforcement officers who risk their lives in ‘war zones’ every day across the country. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reports that a total of 1,501 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past 10 years, an average of one death every 58 hours or 150 per year. … Just this week, NLEOMF released preliminary fatality statistics from August 2013 to August 2014. Total fatalities are up 14 percent, from 63 last year to 72 this year. … Al Sharpton, concocter of hate-crimes hoaxes and inciter of violent riots against police, had no comment.”

BOOKS
Horowitz:  “Where is the Republican opposition? Why are Republicans still treating Obama as though his were a normal presidency and not a national disgrace? Why are there no indictments of Obama for the carnage he has enabled?”   Horowitz is the author of the newly published book “Take No Prisoners: The Battle Plan for Defeating the Left.”

Dr. Ben Carson’s latest book has overtaken Hillary Clinton’s new memoir in total book sales.

LEFTIST WATCH
The Center for Responsive Politics has issued a report detailing the top donors to political campaigns in 2014. Of the top 20, only two were supporting GOP candidates. Eleven were labor unions.

The U.S. Navy instructed housekeepers to remove Gideon Bibles from every hotel room on all its military bases after it received one letter from an atheist group.
After an uproar organized by the American Family Association, the Navy reversed the decision, the Bibles will stay.

A 40-year political career came to a close after Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie lost his bid for a second term in a stunning primary-election defeat by a fellow Democrat and state senator who defied party leadership to challenge the incumbent. Aging hippie Abercrombie had high-profile endorsements including President Obama.

In a major power play that aligns liberal muscle more fully behind the Democratic Party — and Hillary Clinton — the self-described “right-wing hitman-turned-Clinton enforcer”  David Brock is taking over a leading liberal  group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.   “Brock was elected chairman of the group’s board last week after laying out a multifaceted expansion intended to turn the group into a more muscular — and likely partisan — attack dog…”

Politically active liberal Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook is now blocking Republican candidates from his social media website Facebook in the GOP’s bid to retake control of the U.S. Senate in November.

Hollywood is pouring money into the midterm elections, with A-listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Barbra Streisand all coughing up blockbuster bucks. The donations are largely aimed at keeping the Senate in Democratic hands.

Terror group Boko Haram is now feared to have abducted almost 100 boys and men in a raid on a village in Nigeria, just months after the militants captured more than 200 schoolgirls. “The bloodthirsty extremists, who aim to reinstate a medieval Islamic caliphate in religiously mixed Nigeria, are likely to have kidnapped the boys in order to force them to fight.”

ARTICLES
“I´ve been getting a lot of email from Democratic fundraisers lately. They seem very worried about November´s elections. First came the highly publicized "Impeachment Red Alert" campaign, in which the Democratic congressional committee warned that Republicans will impeach President Obama if they win control of the House and Senate. Though much ridiculed, the Impeachment Red Alert effort was a big winner, pulling in $2.1 million in small donations in a single weekend. Despite that success, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi´s mood seemed to blacken in subsequent days as she asked for more and more money….”

The media’s unwritten rule for covering political scandals:  “Hide ‘D,’ Showcase ‘R’”.  Bozell documents example after example….

Turns out all that "hope and change" stuff was just hot air. A new report from the D.C.-based press shows that -- gasp -- the White House is infested with Beltway lobbyists. The Washington press corps discovers that the "Obama administration has hired about 70 previously registered corporate, trade association and for-hire lobbyists.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) laid out a seven-point argument for how he knows “conservatives are winning” that almost doubles as the case for his presidential candidacy. “What I’m going to talk to you about this afternoon is how we can win. And let me tell you something that is not getting a whole lot of coverage in the mainstream media: Conservatives are winning,” Cruz said Friday evening during a speech at the 2014 RedState Gathering in Fort Worth, Texas.

Dan Pipes:  As Israeli operations against Hamas wind down, here are seven insights into the month-long conflict….

The Southern US Border is so porous even Osama Bin Laden can get across. And to prove it James O’Keefe crossed back and forth across the Rio Grande, dressed in an Osama Bin Laden costume. The investigation took place in Hudspeth County, Texas, at a crossing commonly used by illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. “Do you feel safe now?”  Okeefe says in the video: “If the president or Senator Reid or anyone else tries to tell you that our borders are secure, they are lying to you.”

The Washington establishment GOP might want to re-think it´s ongoing war against its own so called ´Tea Party´ base. It´s that very thing USA Today credits for the GOP having such a strong hand in the House..

The NYT is not happy about this development:  “A legislative year in which Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio set out to publicly marginalize the more vocal right-wing members of his conference ended with them emboldened, and with new leaders ready to bring the right back into the fold. “This was one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve had in my eight years in Congress,” Michelle Bachmann said. “We were able to achieve unity across the conference in what is likely to be the most consequential issue of this time: immigration.”

WISE WORDS
“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence … the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake; since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of Republican Government.”
